Houseboats & The People Who Live In Them

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live on a houseboat? To wake up to the sounds of birdsong and drink your coffee on a floating porch as kayakers and ducks stroll by waving their oars and flicking their tails in greeting?

Or maybe you enjoyed the movie Sleepless in Seattle, the romance and passion of a life afloat, the mystery and allure of living on the water while the city pounds on behind you.

As broke and idealistic college students in tiny apartments and broken-down houses, we were very curious to find out how the other half lives. We conducted a series of interviews with real life houseboat owners, and while it wasn’t all Tom Hanks and sunsets, we learned a lot about the houseboat and floating home communities of Seattle and got a chance to tackle the age-old question, Is it better down where it’s wetter?

Our audience is anyone living in Seattle who’s ever wondered about houseboat living and what it’s all about.
